1. Use the invisible decrease (when you decrease only use the front loops). It makes your decreases look less visible.
2. Don't be afraid to over stuff. You can always use a smaller hook to take stuffing out, but you can't put more in. Stuffing right REALLY helps with shape.
3. stagger your increases and decreases. For example a pattern will read:
row 1: *sc, dec*
row 2: *2 sc, dec*
row 3: *3 sc, dec*
row 4: *4 sc, dec*
You should actually crochet this way:
row 1: *sc, dec*
row 2: *dec, 2 sc*
row 3: *3 sc, dec*
row 4: *dec, 4 sc*
by doing this your work will look smoother because the extra "bump" from your decreases won't bunch together. Same goes for increases.
